Reading Is Fundamental, Inc.
collaborates with Hart Partners and the Hartwell Kiwanis Club to provide
books to children in the Hart County Elementary Schools.
Founded in 1966, RIF is the oldest and largest children's and family
nonprofit literacy organization in the United States. RIF’s highest
priority is reaching underserved children from birth to age 8.
All RIF programs combine three essential elements to foster children's
literacy: reading motivation, family and community involvement, and the
excitement of choosing free books to keep.
In the 2004/2005 school year over 1500 books were given to kids at
South Hart elementary. In addition, RIF allocated over $5000 toward
new books for the school library.
In the 2005/2006 school year, the book distributions will be held at
North Hart and Hartwell Elementary. Distributions will be held at Hartwell
Elementary on 9/20, 11/9, and 1/11. North Hart will distribute books on 10/4-5,
11/15-16, and 1/17-18.
