Parents as Teachers (PAT) is an international early childhood parent education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy until their child enters kindergarten, usually age 5. This program is designed to enhance child development and school achievement through parent education. Recognizing that all families can benefit from support, Parents as Teachers families come in all configurations, from all socio-economic levels, and from rural, urban, and suburban communities.
Parents as Teachers has four main program goals: First, to increase parent knowledge of childhood development. Second, to provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues. Third, to prevent child abuse and neglect. Fourth and finally, to increase children’s school readiness and school success. Our vision is that all children will learn, grow and develop to realize their full potential. The mission of Parents as Teachers is to provide the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the critical early years of life.
